I don't understand why anyone would hold back on purchasing BBGDPR! It's by far the best GDRP extension out there by a mile.

I held off for a long time because my forum is only in the United States, my users are all Americans and I don't give a damn how they do things in Europe. Plus, there's no realistic way any European court will be able to assert jurisdiction over me and my little site.

That said, I bought it anyway because (a) I like to support Dave; (b) it wouldn't surprise me if similar laws get passed right here in the good ol' US of A; and (c) who knows, maybe one day I'll host a bunch of European users?

Enforcement of EU fines issued under GDPR would be by the use of international law - essentially the US courts would recognize the legitimacy of the EU fine and enforce it (this may require a secondary action to be brought in the US court.

That's a lot of "ifs" and "maybes" for someone to pursue my little site. Enforcement of foreign laws/fines/judgments in the United States is a tricky proposition and not worth the effort to pursue individuals or organizations with zero international presence.

I agree that its a lot or ifs and maybes and your website maybe nothing but a "little site" to you but there are legal institutions out there that target sites like yours in order to make a quick buck! It sucks but it is what it is.

Right now the info in those links represent the hopes and wishes of EU officials that all US webowners follow the guidelines. They ignore the political realities of attempting to enforce GDPR in the US for small-to-moderate-sized websites whose EU presence is minimal or nil. An EU member country will not risk US retaliation, particularly if a GDPR action is initiated by an EU activist. And as long as our current administration is in office, there would be retaliation.
